Facebook Introducing Snooze Feature to Temporarily Ignore Feeds or Friends

Facebook to start offering a temporarily ignore feature

We all have those friends on Facebook. The ones who can not go 10 minutes without posting a status update. Eating dinner, Yum! Quality time with Hubby! Saw man getting hit by a football in groin, LOL!

It seems that Facebook too may understand your pain as unconfirmed reports are suggesting that some users in the US have been given the option to hit the metaphorical snooze button on their friends or liked feeds on a snooze.

The report, via MSN, suggests that a user in America this morning woke up to find that they were able to put their feeds or friends on ‘snooze’. This option allowed them to do this for 10 minutes all the way up to 48 hours.

This is certainly an improvement on the recent news that Facebook was allowing for targeted antisemitic advertising.

Why would you want to do this?

If you have to ask this, I envy you. Don’t get me wrong, my Facebook tree is very well pruned. I don’t like anything unless I am interested and I don’t accept a friend request unless they are, indeed, a friend. I have never understood the need to have 200+ friends, but then, that’s just me.

So why would you want to ignore a friend or a feed specifically? Well, perhaps it is your favorite sports feed, but you didn’t get a chance to watch the big fight last night. You don’t want to accidentally sneak the result! Therefore, snoozing the feed might remove this possibility.

Alternatively, your friend went to a party of concert yesterday and they can’t stop posting about it. A quick click and you can temporarily ignore them for 24 hours, by which time they have hopefully rejoined as an acceptable member of your Facebook society.

Having just checked, I don’t have this feature myself. In addition, there has been no official announcement from Facebook regarding this. However, if it was a hoax, it’s either very good or very bad. I can’t tell.

Would you like to have access to a snooze feature on Facebook? Let us know in the comments. You surely wouldn’t snooze us… would you?!
