Facebook Plans to Create Original TV Shows

Facebook is looking to launch its original TV programs and could release as early as next month.
Business Insider has reported that the social media giant plans to create over two dozen original TV shows. Also, it states that they have already given the green light to several proposals. It has been no secret that Facebook has been looking to diversify into television.
What can we expect from Facebook?
They are planning to launch two tiers of shows. Longer, larger budget epics and shorter 10-20 minute subjects to appeal to its near 2 billion users. It is expected that they will also want 1 large ‘marquee’ brand to push the project forward.
Why are they doing this?
With it nearing 2 billion users, it is keen to diversify its content and appeal. It will want to lead the way ahead of its competitors and would be one of the first major online social media sites to create its programming. They would also want to address the growing concern that its user based it getting too old. It is keen not to lose the younger generations who are moving to its more ‘trendy’ rivals. Also, it would be silly to deny the millions of dollars of income which could be earned via advertising.
With Amazon recently capturing ‘Top Gear’ from the BBC and ‘The Crown’ on Netflix, Facebook will be keen to have their exclusive show.
When can we expect something?
Rumours suggest we should expect the first official release or announcement around the end of June. It may even be considering treading on YouTube’s toes by offering its celebrities an alternative gateway following recent harsh advertising revenue changes. Will we see a Markiplier Facebook show?, The Boogie2988 hour? Such an announcement will surely come as a pleasant break from what has been a turbulent few months in regards to bad publicity.
We can only hope that whatever is produced is better than the god awful ‘The Social Network’ which proved to be nothing more than a cure for insomnia.
