In an effort to deal with current, resource-hogging Facebook for Android app, the social network has released a new, lightweight version of the app, targeted at developing markets.
Facebook Lite has been made available via the Google Play store to Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Zimbabwe, but copies of the APK are floating about online for anyone outside of the release countries who wants to try the new stripped-down Facebook iteration.
The APK is only 252KB – tiny compared to the 27MB of the primary app – so Facebook Lite is ideal for anyone running an older Android device.
