Have you ever wanted to combine your social media with employment? Then it might be time to polish up your CV as Facebook have announced plans to open up a London office.

In a report via the BBC, Facebook plans to open the office which will create at least 800 jobs in the city.

The plans are to take occupancy in part of the building at Rathbone Place, near Oxford Circus in central London. In addition to Facebook, however, other start-up companies will be offered the chance to base themselves from the location for a 3 month period in the hopes that the high-profile location might kickstart their business.

Hopefully, they might use the new location to work on their infamous algorithm.

What does Facebook plan to do there?

Nicola Mendelsohn, the vice-president of Europe, Middle East and Asia, has said that they were “more committed than ever to the UK”.  Adding that: “entrepreneurial ecosystem and engineering excellence” made the location ideal for them.

The new jobs available are thought to cover a scope of roles within the social media group. These reported include; marketing, sales, development and engineering.

Those lucky enough to find a job might find themselves working on their artificial intelligence systems or possibly as part of their online policing force.

The UK Chancellor, Phillip Hammond has spoken on the announcement. He has said that the announcement showed a “sign of confidence” in Britain. He added that: “The UK is not only the best place to start a new business, it’s also the best place to grow one.”

Once opened, the social media website will employ around 2,300 people within the UK.
