Unilad Group in Trouble as They Find Themselves Blocked by Facebook

The massively popular Facebook group ‘Unilad’ has been banned by Facebook due to a breach of rules

Having millions of likes on Facebook isn’t easy. It does, however, clearly indicate one thing, whatever you are doing you’re doing it right. Unfortunately, Facebook often doesn’t see it that way.

Unilad was one of the most popular groups on Facebook. With over 34 million likes it was clearly well loved. The group (as well as having a website), garnered itself on posts or content specifically targeting a young male audience. As such, the content it posted while funny, was often quite risque.

It seems that the group has pushed its luck too far, however, as a report via the Guardian that Unilad is no more. On Facebook at least.

The social media site has recently been working hard to fight a tide of criticism. This, therefore, might represent a little flexing of the muscles to its members.

Blocked, but not banned, yet!

A quick search on Facebook can confirm that the Unilad group has not been banned. The group themselves has, however, confirmed that Facebook issued them with a blocking order.

Now, we have seen in the past that Facebook can get a little ban happy. Particularly if the algorithm is involved. For example, we only saw recently how an artists painting of a robin got banned for being too sexual. For Facebook to block a group with 34 million likes is clearly not a decision they make lightly.

It seems, however, that their content just pushed it a little too far. The block is only thought to be temporary, however, Facebook has yet to confirm either way.

It is thought that the block has been due to an inappropriate post regarding the death of rapper Lip Peep.

I daresay that the ban will not be permanent. I suspect that Facebook may just want to remind the group that there are rules and while it might turn a blind eye to some things, there are limits.
