A Closer Look
As with most peripherals including webcams, we were expecting an all in one unit with USB cable connected, but we were pleasantly suprised with a detachable USB cable with a branded faceVsion cable tie.
Personally, i think it’s a great idea to keep the client base wide open. This will in turn appeal to the laptop user who doesn’t want a mass amount of wire trapsing from their USB port to where the webcam is positioned by buying a shorter lead (at an extra cost), but still giving the user needing the length of the pre-supplied cable the ability to use the webcam with ease.
The webcam itself is very stylish with a slim design showcasing its super lens in the middle and a nice black surrounding plastic which gives off a kind of carbon style look. A clear faceVsion logo is seen below on a clear plastic backing. Nothing wrong with a bit of self-promotion, just encase you forget who the manufacturer is.
The back gives you the view of the stand, USB port and part of the unidirectional dual microphones which operate at a frequency of 100-12000Hz, sensitivity of -47dB+/-4dB and an SNR of >60dB. Now to most people, these numbers won’t mean a lot, and frankly they don’t need to, but for some tech buffs out there, it gives them a clear outline of the levels this microphone can handle and cope with.
One thing that does seperate this webcam from others is the fact it can be mounted on most surfaces. If you were to buy a webcam from Logitech (for instance) you will most likely be buying a desktop webcam or one specifically designed for notebooks that clips on in some shape or form. This webcam makes it possible to be sat upright on your desk or by using the 2-way flexible stand, it can be mounted upon your TFT or laptop screen with ease.
As you delve in more to the functionality and features of the webcam, you will notice the main features listed on the outer part of the lens, just as you’d expect on a camera or phone. We get told that it has AF (auto focus), a wide angle lens, and that it’s designed for 720p HD video.
