War – War Never Changes!
War might never change, but the Fallout series occasionally has. Since switching to a 3D version in the 3rd release in the franchise, Fallout has built on the fantastic success of the originals.
I actually played the original Fallout when it was released (so I’m old) and as such, I have a lot of fond memories of the original title. Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited about the VR version of Fallout 4, but the original will always have a place in my gaming heart.
Here’s a brief selection of my highlights:
- Selling out Sandy Shades to slavers.
- Escalating the war between the Zombies and humans in the Necropolis.
- I sold out my vault to the Super Mutant Army
- I joined the Brotherhood of Steel (just to rob them blind).
and on top of all that, I never found the water chip.
So where can I get my free copy of Fallout?
Presuming that Shelter just isn’t cutting it for you anymore, Bethesda is offering the original title for free, but you have to act quickly.
If you visit the Steam website, before circa midnight tonight, you should be able to claim your free copy.

It is 100% free as long as you act quickly, so the price is right. The only other real question is will you enjoy it? Well, for younger gamers, that’s a tricky question. The original Fallout was a great game, but by modern standards, it is a bit clunky.
On the other hand, it does have some fantastic mechanics and for fans of the series, the original game perhaps goes to a level of depth not seen before.
I personally would rate Fallout as one of my 20 best PC games ever, and since it’s free, how could you possibly say no?
