A new HD remake of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 made by some dedicated fans will be available soon. The game overhauls the original and aims to introduce younger gamers to some classic gaming fun. Understandably, it is not a simple task to convert the old game into an HD compatible version. In fact, the developers had to redraw the sprites from scratch! They did a lovely job and it actually looks quite professional and crisp. Even more impressive is the fact that the entire project is a labour of love, since it is a non-profit endeavour. There is zero financial gain for them to do this, nor or they planning on monetizing the project.
A working demo for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 HD is coming out on September 30. Giving fans a chance to try it out in person. They have a trailer for now showing some behind the scenes work and a few seconds of gameplay to tide fans over. It might take some time to get over the crispness of the HD look, but so far, it actually appears that they have captured the spirit of the 1992 original quite well. Those interested can follow updates of the project at their Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr or Blogspot account.
