Ubisoft decided to reveal this game on April 1st, some questioned whether it was a joke or not. That seemed like a normal thing to do, however the game got rated by multiple country rating boards and had a cool looking trailer, making it much less likely to be false.
After all this April Fools business, the game was announced as real but we still didn’t know what it was. There was no word on it being DLC for Far Cry 3 or it being a stand-alone game, except for a leaked XBLA box-art. Judging from the very little info we got from the trailer, it seemed like an 80s gag game with the VHS effects and music.
Now we actually have a release date, it’ll be out May 1st on XBLA as a stand-alone title. Although this doesn’t come from Ubisoft themselves, who have been quite quiet on this entire subject. No, this is all from the Xbox.com page for the game, which includes this blurb for it:
Far Cry® 3 Blood Dragon is THE Kick-Ass Cyber Shooter taking place on a bizarre open-world island crawling with evil. Welcome to an 80’s VHS vision of the future. The year is 2007 and you are Sargent Rex Colt, a Mark IV Cyber Commando who’s fighting against a cyborg army gone rogue. Your mission: get the girl, kill the baddies, and save the world. Experience every cliché of a VHS era vision of a nuclear future, where cyborgs, blood dragons, mutants, and Michael Biehn (Terminator, Aliens, Navy Seals) collide. Playing Far Cry® 3 Blood Dragon doesn’t require a copy of Far Cry® 3.
This whole thing has been interesting and the game should be a blast since Far Cry 3 itself was intense. There’s no word for release on anything else but 360 at the moment, since Ubisoft has not spoken a word yet.
