You explored the Stone Age in Far Cry Primal, but are you ready to fast-forward to 19th century America? We’re asking due to a series of rumours that have surfaced recently, rumours that might surprise many Far Cry fans. Still, would it be so hard to imagine Far Cry 5 as a Spaghetti Western? Not really, if you ask me, and judging by Jason Schreier’s (Kotaku) reaction, Ubisoft’s next Far Cry will feature a lot of hats and horses. The rumours started off with a website named Great Falls Tribune, which reported on a local Church on the northeastern Montana prairie. Apparently, this church will appear in an upcoming video game set for a September release. Then came along Producer Jeff Guillot, who stated that this game would be a sequel to a well-known franchise. Naturally, everyone thought about Red Dead Redemption 2.
Guillot and his team used a drone to film “a man fighting with another man near a hanging bell as a train rolled by on the tracks a half-mile away.” The resulting video is promotional in nature, but safe to assume that it doesn’t represent Red Dead Redemption 2. When people found out about the game’s imaginary setting, Hope County, they started to suspect Far Cry 5. That’s when Jason Schreier more or less confirmed this rumour by saying “you guys are good!”
You probably don’t remember this, but Ubisoft polled gamers about potential Far Cry settings. One of the available options is a Spaghetti Western taking place the late 19th century America. Considering that this game comes out in September, we’re likely to find out more news about it in the next few months. We will keep you in the loop, obviously, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for an official announcement from Ubisoft.
