Far Cry 6 Beta Email Phishing Scam Discovered!
Mike Sanders / 4 years ago
Around the Summer of last year, we finally got confirmation from Ubisoft that Far Cry 6 was indeed in development and, all going well, it would be set to release before the end of this year. Since then, however, specific news regarding the game has gotten a little light. Well, I haven’t noticed much, at least! However, if that is the case, then apparently, scammers might be attempting to capitalize on that situation or at least the prominence (and presumed anticipation) of the upcoming release.
Far Cry 6 Scam!
Following a report via MP1ST, it has been confirmed that a number of people have been receiving an e-mail purporting to come from Ubisoft. Within it, they offer the person the opportunity to access 40-minutes worth of the beta version of Far Cry 6. Fantastic news, right?…
Well, no, actually, it isn’t. Because apparently if you click on the link to say that you are interested, this gives the scammer visual access to your PC and, by proxy, they can then also record what you’re doing. In other words, it’s a phishing scam and one that, we hope, hasn’t so far managed to snag any victims!
What Do We Think?
Based on the content of the email, it would appear that the scammers are initially targeting YouTubers and potentially those with a relatively successful subscriber count. It shouldn’t be discounted though that they might be simply sending this same email to everyone. You know, possibly in the hopes of rubbing some egos for the owners of modest channels. “Wow, Ubisoft wants me to play their game?!”
In a nutshell, though, this is 100% entirely a scam. As such, if you see this e-mail, just hit that delete button. No, I’m afraid if there is going to be any early access to a beta version, Ubisoft will likely be a little more selective in who they pick and, more so, likely won’t be too inclined to send such a generic e-mail about it either!
