A feature-length remake of Terminator 2 has been made. Not impressed? How about it being entirely remade using the Grand Theft Auto 5 engine?
Well, it has been done, and my word is it an impressive piece of work and labour of love.
GTA 5 modding enthusiast Atro_One has recreated a feature-length version of the Terminator 2 film using mods and the games in build cinematic mode. The film, coming in at just over an hour in length is slightly abridged, but pretty much covers the entire film and to a surprisingly competent standard. Even James Cameron is likely to be impressed with this.
This isn’t the first time in which the games cinematic mode has been used to recreate films/scenes and equally, there are some very impressive works to view on YouTube. However, for such an iconic film the work is impressive and the length itself shows how much of a massive task this would have been. It is one of those amazing, ‘why?’ ‘why not!’ projects.
While some liberties have been taken (the more difficult scenes to recreate have been compensated with off-screen sound effects) on the whole, it is Terminator 2. It very effectively gets across the whole story.
In this instance, Arnie may not necessarily need your clothes, boots or motorcycle. He will, however, require your processor, ram and motherboard as the film is available to watch for free on YouTube. With the original having been created in Russian, an English version has since been released.
So sit back, get out the popcorn and prepare for a GTA 5 experience. Where someone doesn’t repeatedly keep throwing explosives at you. Also, remember to doth your cap to Atro_One who has today won the internet.
