Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Director Urges Modders to Avoid Offensive or Inappropriate Mods

The director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is calling on fans to refrain from creating or installing “offensive or inappropriate” mods when the game launches on PC on January 23, 2025, Square Enix announced at The Game Awards. In an interview with the Epic Games Blog, director Hamaguchi discussed improvements in the PC version’s graphics compared to the PS5 and PS5 Pro editions.

“While the team has no plans for official in-game mod support, we respect the creativity of the modding community and welcome their creations,” Hamaguchi said. “However, we ask modders not to create or install anything offensive or inappropriate.” This request mirrors one made by Naoki Yoshida before the release of Final Fantasy 16 on PC, likely due to the bizarre and sometimes obscene mods created for Final Fantasy 7 Remake when it launched on PC in 2021, including transforming characters into Cloud’s sword or dressing him in various outfits, and even adding virtual reality support.

Graphics Enhancements on PC

Regarding the PC version’s graphical upgrades, Hamaguchi highlighted significant improvements. “The lighting and rendering have been greatly adjusted,” he said when asked about the differences compared to the PS5 version. “For high-spec PCs, we have prepared even richer 3D models and texture resolutions that cannot be processed on the PS5.”

The PC version will support Nvidia DLSS and VRR and offer various settings tailored to users’ hardware, including default options for those with less powerful systems. To take full advantage of the enhanced graphics, a capable PC is required. According to the recommended system requirements, players will need an Nvidia RTX 4080 GPU to run the game at 4K resolution with 60 FPS and maximum detail settings.
