Hironobu Sakaguchi, the renowned creator of the Final Fantasy series, has revealed his excitement about working on a new game after deciding to postpone his retirement. In a recent interview with Famitsu (thanks VGC), Sakaguchi shared his enthusiasm for his ongoing project, marking a significant change from his earlier stance. In 2021, Sakaguchi hinted that Fantasian might be his final project, but in 2023, he confirmed that he was back in game development.
I genuinely made Fantasian thinking it might be my retirement work, but yes, I’m taking it back,” he told Famitsu. “We’re starting to talk about a new project… that is, we’re making a new game.
Sakaguchi emphasized the joy he finds in working with his team. The new project involves many of the same people who developed Fantasian, though he has kept further details about the game under wraps. The creator also mentioned that the development process now feels more like a passion than work.
One thing I can say is that game production is fun. It’s probably more of a pleasure than a job now,” he said. “I’ve come to realize that it’s really nice to be part of a group of people.
On a personal note, Sakaguchi revealed that he is expecting a grandchild soon and hopes to incorporate the emotions from this life event into his new game.
