News on the in-development Final Fantasy VII Remake has been thin on the ground since the first gameplay trailer dropped in December 2015, but the game’s director Tetsuya Nomura has assured fans that Square Enix is currently preparing its “next information release,” and has apologised for the silence in the meantime.
“I know I haven’t given any information in a while, but please rest assured that work is moving forward steadily,” Tetsuya Nomura told Famitsu (translation via Kingdom Hearts Insider). “We are currently getting specifics ready for the next information release, and just like we’ve done with [Kingdom Hearts 2.8] this time, we plan to bring a whole lot out in one go instead of dribs and drabs, so please look forward to it. I am looking forward to the reveals myself.”
“[N]ext year is […] FF7‘s 20th anniversary, and I think I’ll jazz things up for them,” Nomura added. “I plan to start bringing more to light little by little, so I thank you in advance for your continued support.”
Nomura’s vow tallies with statements made by FFVII Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase back in January. “I believe that this year will still be a year of preparations for Final Fantasy VII Remake,” Kitase told Famitsu earlier this year (translation via The Express). “I’d like to create a new kind of value for the hardware that is the PlayStation 4 for our next announcement.”
According to Yibada, Square Enix has no intention of releasing Final Fantasy VII Remake or Final Fantasy XV on the Nintendo NX, which is due out in March 2017. Final Fantasy VII Remake is set for release on PlayStation 4 in episodic form. No release date has been announced.
