Final Fantasy XV PC Requires Over 170GB of Storage!

The short answer: A lot!

It shouldn’t really surprise anyone that games are becoming bigger and bigger. After all, 4K textures alone take up quite a bit of disk space. Still, when we look at the size of games from four or five years ago, we notice a considerable leap. Nowadays, games tend to occupy about 40 to 60GB of disk space, but the upcoming PC version of Final Fantasy XV will take things to a whole new level, as it will reportedly take over 170GB of your hard drive.

All that space is justified by the plethora of eye-candy. This includes “4K high res textures, Dolby Atmos, realistic turf, advanced hair simulation, combustible fluid, fire and smoke simulation, advanced shadow algorithms, high-quality ambient occlusion,” and more. According to Square Enix, the game will rely heavily on Nvidia’s GameWorks, which is a good or a bad thing depending what kind of hardware you have in your system.

“To achieve the creation of this highest-end edition of FINAL FANTASY XV, Square Enix has partnered with NVIDIA to integrate several of the world’s best real-time visual effects, courtesy of our GameWorks library, in addition to ShadowPlay Highlights, NVIDIA Ansel, and GeForce Experience’s extensive suite of features.”

What about the requirements?

Well, Square Enix is reportedly recommending an Intel Core i7-3770 3.4 GHz or AMD Ryzen 7 1700 3.7 GHz, as well as 16GB of RAM, and a beefy GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. Now, this might seem excessive, but this kind of setup will only be necessary to run the game at its highest settings. Lower-end hardware will probably be able to cope without too many issues, provided that the details will be tweaked. If it does indeed come out in early 2018, Final Fantasy XV for PC will be over a year and a half late when compared to its console counterparts.

Let’s hope it will be worth it though.
