Yesterday the news broke that Final Fantasy XV would require a staggering 170GB of storage when released on PC. However, it looks like that appears to have been a simple communications mistake. Seemingly every site followed the story, including us, but now it’s time to quickly set the record straight.
Hajime Tabata, the Final Fantasy director, corrected the information from their press release which stated that the game would require 170GB of HDD space.
“That was a mistake, actually. That was a communications mistake – something got put in a memo that really shouldn’t have. What that is [the specifications that went out to press] based on the specs that we’re running the demo on today. Again, the final specs for the release version haven’t been fixed yet. There’s a very good chance they can change. Someone put that in there and it got reported as the recommended specs, but that’s not the final fixed version. The fact that it became that number is a communication error”.
Basically, the install size very well may be 170 GB right now, but with the game still in development, even they don’t know the final result. I’m guessing it will be much lower than 170GB, but I wouldn’t rule it out as some new games have topped 100GB, such as Gears of War 4. Either way, I hope they get the game to something less than 100GB, and I’m sure those with slower internet connections do too.
The PC release is promising 4K and 8K resolution support, HDR10, Dolby Atmos, and much more. If that’s not enough to get you hyped for the ultimate Final Fantasy XV gaming experience, then nothing will be.
“Coming Early 2018, get ready to be at the centre of the ultimate fantasy adventure, now for Windows PC. Final Fantasy XV: Windows Edition boasts a wealth of bonus content, including content contained in free updates to the console versions as well as paid downloadable content originally available through the Season Pass. Supporting high-resolution options and compatible with native 4K resolution and HDR 10. Thanks to NVIDIA, you can experience the beautiful and carefully crafted world of Eos like never before.” – YouTube
