All good things must come to an end. In Game of Thrones though, exactly what that end will be is anyone’s guess. After 7 seasons, we have some good ideas who won’t take the Iron Throne, largely because they’re dead. Who will win, however, is hard to say and the season 7 finale left the perfect set-up to the 8th and final season.
In fairness, even when it is filmed it’s going to be hard to know. Reports suggest that multiple endings are all being shot as to avoid any spoilers. In addition to this, it’s my understanding that the cast are under some pretty tight NDA’s in regards to the finale.
Well, if you’re looking for that resolution, don’t get your hopes up. We’re not going to find out any time soon. In a report via Polygon, although HBO have remained tight-lipped about an airing date, one of the cast members hasn’t.
Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark in the TV show has confirmed that the final season will not air until at least 2019.
Casey Bloys from HBO has said that it’s impossible at present to give an airing date as the writing hasn’t finished and preparations are still underway.
While season 8 will mark the finale, it will be the shortest to date. At just 6 episodes fans might initially feel a little disappointed. Do not worry, however. It is thought that each episode will be around 1 hour 30 minutes long. So basically we’re getting 6 films worth of ending which will be around the same air time in total as previous seasons.
If you can’t wait until then, there is a mini-series animated prequel. It’s better than nothing.
