Just in case you are still trying to decide whether you should switch over to Firefox or not, you now actually have a pretty good reason to do so. Firefox 44 has just hit the stable channel, which means that it can be downloaded on Windows, Mac, Android and Linux-based devices. What makes this latest Firefox version stand out, however, is the fact that it offers support for push notifications from certain websites as long the as the user chooses to opt-in. Apparently, these push notifications behave in a similar way to web notifications, but the best part is that they can actually be received even when the websites in question are not open in tabs.
This means that you’ll no longer have to check for updates manually for emails, social notifications or weather news, which is a nice feature to have but definitely not an innovative one. That’s because the Google Chrome browser has been offering push notifications to its users for several years now, not to mention Apple’s Safari, which also boasts similar features. However, if the absence of push notifications was keeping you from installing Firefox on your PC or gadget, you can finally go ahead and give it a try. Apart from this feature, Firefox 44 also supports H.264 video playback, enables WebM/VP9 video support and provides better warnings regarding untrusted connections and certificate errors.
