Campo Santo, the makers of Firewatch has announced their next project titled ‘In the Valley of the Gods’. The new first-person adventure game is set for a PC release on 2019. That is a long ways away but there is enough in the works for a working trailer. The story revolves around Rashida and Zora, two documentary filmmakers during the late 1920s. They have peaked in their careers and are on the way down. Similarly, their relationship also took a nosedive and have parted ways. However, an opportunity of a lifetime is at their doorstep. Looking to revive their once flourishing filmmaking careers, the pair venture off to Egypt in search of the Lost Tomb of Nefertiti.
Just like Firewatch, Campo Santo focuses on the relationship between the characters. Unlike the first game however, the pair stick close to each other physically instead of via radio (since walkie-talkies are from 1937). The sense of wonder seeing these lost locations is palpable, even just from the short shots in the trailer. Seeing as how well Campo Santo pulled off Firewatch, In the Valley of the Gods is easily going to be one of the most anticipated games of 2019.
The official Steam page is already up. Although not much detail is available yet. Even the system requirements only list Windows 7 or higher for now.
The trailer shows parts of the actual gameplay in buttery smooth 60 frames-per-second. Not only are the visuals and art direction quite impressive, but the music is quite fitting as well. It actually looks like an interactive mature Pixar film. Since players will be playing as film makers, parts of the tasks involves actually shooting some locations.
