The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is set for an official unveiling next week at a New York press event. Despite this, sources at Droid-Life have released images of the actual device and preempted the press screening. From an aesthetic standpoint, the Galaxy Note 5 is heavily influenced by the Galaxy S6’s design and opts for a metal frame and glass panels. Although, the handset has a curve to make it feel more natural in your hands. There is also a spring loaded stylus, USB connector, bottom speaker and headphone jack.
Unfortunately, the USB port isn’t Type-C compliant which comes as a major disappointment. On a more positive note, the display utilizes extremely thin bezels which maximize the PPI and general screen size. The handset reportedly features 4GB Ram, internal storage options of either 32, 64 or 128gb and a 3000mAH battery. Unbelievably, the there is no SD expansion slot whatsoever so you’re stuck with the internal storage size. Additionally, the 3000mAH battery seems ridiculously underpowered given the device’s screen size and battery drain on large models. Even more shocking, the battery is soldered onto the PCB and cannot be replaced.
From the details so far, it appears Samsung is pushing a new user-interface for Air Command which grants quick access to a number of key applications. However, Samsung’s reputation for bloatware is pretty atrocious and I would like to see them make any custom software optional without manual tweaks.
