There is something about the Oddworld game series that always manages to conjure up a lot of fuzzy feelings from older gamers. This was no less seen when the remaster of the original Abe’s Odyssey “New ‘n’ Tasty” was released a couple of years ago.
The remake itself was excellent. Not only did it provide a good homage to the original, but it also was fresh enough to get a lot of new gamers into the franchise.
Acting as a direct sequel, however, the first trailer for the follow-up ‘Oddworld: Soulstorm’ has just been released and, I must admit, I’m starting to get those fuzzy feelings again.
With the release of the trailer, some details of the game have also been revealed. The official description says:
“Now, Abe finds himself – along with 300 newly emancipated Mudokons – without food, water or a place to call home. Stranded alone in the desert. They find solace in a strange new brew. A delicious drink that has insidious ramifications for their newfound freedom.”
This is only the 2nd release of 5 planned games for the series. As such, there is clearly a lot more to come! We must admit though, if this trailer is anything to judge it by, it’s hitting the mark and then some. Combining some excellent looking graphics, it also appears that many of the franchises familiar mechanics may be returning too.
With the game planned for release in 2020, it seems that the Oddworld has a lot more life left in it yet!
