Benchmarks for AMD’s Threadripper are still under embargo. Accordingly, outlets are still sitting on performance results for the Ryzen processors. However, LinusTechTips (via VideoCardz) released a host of gaming benchmarks for the new 1950X CPU, thanks to the new Dell-made Alienware Area-51 system. HotHardware already previewed the Threadripper Area-51 PC last week, but with only limited benchmark information. LinusTechTips, though, pitted the new processor against X299, X370, and Z270 platforms.
Alienware Area-51 Specifications
The Alienware Area-51 system benchmarked features the following hardware:
- CPU: AMD Threadripper 1950X (Stock)
- Motherboard: Proprietary Dell/Alienware
- Memory: 4x 8GB DDR4-2666
- GPU: GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition
- Storage: SanDisk A400 256GB NVMe
Threadripper Gaming Benchmarks
LinusTechTips used Rise of the Tomb Raider to benchmark the four systems.
Frames-Per-Second
In an FPS test – with both DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 – X299 boasted the best performance. Furthermore, the Z270 bench beat out Threadripper, which came in third. Finally, X370 finished last:
3DMark
The 1850X fared better in 3DMark (Fire Strike Ultra, Time Spy and Time Spy CPU). In fact, only the X299 system outperformed its Threadripper rival:
Cinebench and Blender
Threadripper excelled during the Cinebench R15 and Blender benchmarking, though. The two benchmarked truly demonstrate the speed and multithreading power of the 1850X. Accordingly, the Threadripper processor beat out all other competitors:
