First UK Driverless Car Insurance Goes Live

For many getting insurance is easy, you ring up and get a policy to cover you in case you are involved in an accident. What if the accident wasn’t your fault? What if it was because of the automated driving features on your car or because of the driverless nature of the vehicle? An insurer in the UK has the answer as it launches what’s believed to be the first car insurance policy for automated vehicles in the world.

Specialist Insurer Adrian Flux launched the policy to assist with the ever-increasing levels of technology in our vehicles, such as assistive controls or automatic navigation. The policy is a variation of the standard agreement but contains four unique additional areas that help cover autonomous vehicles usage. If you get caught in an accident because you failed to upgrade your vehicle with a patch or update within 24 hours of it becoming available, the policy has that covered.

If you get caught in an accident because you failed to upgrade your vehicle with a patch or update within 24 hours of it becoming available, the policy has that covered. What if all your automatic driving systems fail and cause an accident? The policy has that covered and covers if the car refuses to give you manual control or even if your car gets hacked, your insurance will cover you.

While a while off, driverless cars are available in some form thanks to a generation of vehicles with assisted driving technologies, sadly though if you drive your car into a wall and try to blame the car, it won’t cover you for that.
