At the upper end of this budget we have the MadCatz F.R.E.Q.5 although depending on where you look it may also be sold under the Cyborg brand name, yet aside from the name on the box, the headset remains the same on all technical levels. I chose this one because I have been personally using two of these for over a year now on both my own and my partners gaming rigs and it has easily been one the best headsets I’ve ever owned. It extremely durable, has a comfortable fit and some of the coolest styling on the market (at least in my opinion).
The sound quality is premium all the way and while it truly is an incredible stereo gaming headset with one of the best microphones I’ve used, it really packs a punch when listening to music or movies, it can be used via USB and 3.5mm thanks to modular cables and it can even be plugged into your smart phone for calls.
MadCatz have really put them selves in a good position this last couple of years, making some of the best gaming peripherals on the market and while a lot of attention may go to their keyboards and mice, I think the best they do is headsets, especially when it comes to their Tritton range.
It’s not cheap at £100, but you do get build quality, performance and style that is leaps and bounds ahead of anything else in our list today.

You seem to have forgotten or ignored Creative’s HS-1200, a wi-fi headset with great sound, exceptional mic, macro-ish buttons (control skype, VLC, Winamp, Mumble etc by using the pre-configured buttons as hot-key commands) and after many years of almost 16h/day use so I can hear the PC while my missus watches TV, etc, mine is still working fine.
The only negative is that it can be a little tight on your head {or maybe my head is just huge}.

it’s fair that you should only review products that you (or a team or you) have personally tested, and I obviously missed the bit where you say that these are the best out of the ones you’ve tested… though if you’re going to use that qualifier you perhaps should list the ones that were not as good as those 5 so as not to discriminate against the untested headsets.
Just a suggestion of course in the interest of fairness, openness and honesty – which I assume should be the basis of all journalism.
Not really, anyone can get that list by filtering by price on Amazon lol. “Five best headsets and five other headsets that maybe ok for the same money” doesn’t really have the same ring to it. Was only intended to be some informal light Sunday reading that a conclusive master guide 🙂

Razer, Logitech, and some other great brands were left out of this. Maybe do and update and write “Ten best pc headsets under 100”
I’ve been using the Creative Fatal1ty headset for about 4 years now, about six months ago I had to get a new one as an incident while drinking left the right earphone cutting out when the cord wiggled. I think regular price it’s about fifty dollars and I have seen it for as little as twenty when on sale on newegg.
At first I tried to replace it with a Corsair 1500, but upon receiving it the 50mm drives they advertised were more like mid volume tweeters. They had absolutely no mids or lows at all. I returned it and got another Fatal1ty. I also had a Logitech G35, I won in a contest playing World of Tanks, it sounded alright but for the price it still wasn’t as good sound wise and was only USB, so I sold it on Ebay.
The new Tesoro Kυνέη Angel A1 7.1, now available, is coming at the price of 70/80€. You could think about a review.
