The Flat Earth Society. A group who are intent on the belief that the Earth is not round or spheroid, but is actually flat.
A member of their society, Mark Sargent appeared on the popular UK breakfast show ‘Good Morning Britain’. In his appearance, he attempted to state his case for why the Earth, despite popular opinion, is actually flat.
In one of his arguments for this, he stated that the easiest piece of proof would be to get a camera and: “Point it out to sea and zoom in and you’ll see it doesn’t drop.” Adding in a bizarrely poetic sidenote that: “All the world’s a stage, and we’re just in a big soundstage.”
Now having your thoughts and beliefs is one thing. While I don’t believe that the world is flat myself, I subscribe to the philosophy that you can believe anything you want, just as long as your belief doesn’t require others to believe it as well.
In this instance, however, Mark Sargent appeared to face astronaut Terry Virts. A man who just happened to have spent 200 days on the International Space Station.
Terry Virts was polite in his rebuff and brought with him a solid piece of evidence for the ’round earth’ position. In a report via Metro, he simply opened up an album of photographs taken from space or the ISS. These photographs were taken from many angles all around the planet which clearly demonstrated it is round.

Mark Sargent rebuffed this evidence saying that the photographs were fake or ‘doctored’. It does, however, leave open one of the biggest questions I have in regards to the Flat Earth Society. Why would anyone want to fake the earth being round? What does it achieve?
