Like it or not, it’s hard to argue that between 2014-2017 Five Nights At Freddy’s (or FNAF) was one of the hottest game franchises around. It’s popularity boomed thanks to the support of many YouTube personalities and has since spun off into a series of books and, of course, a huge amount of merchandise. The ongoing fascination with it though does have a reason. Namely, people trying to find out a definitive answer to the plots biggest questions.
Yes, for a game created solely on the basis of an unkind review of his previous release, Scott Cawthon has done alright for himself.
In a report via Eurogamer though, he has revealed further details on a new game, the console ports and, of course, the movie.
Well, firstly, Scott has teased that a brand new FNAF game is in development. He has taken a little time off since the release of ‘Pizzeria Simulator’ and it seems he’s not quite done with it yet. He indicates that the unnamed game will look to combine elements seen from previous releases and will likely be available for free once done. This isn’t, incidentally, the first time Scott has released a game for nothing. He has, however, for the first time applied the term ‘AAA’ to this release. Can we expect something a bit special and more complex? It seems likely!
He also suggested that an AR/VR version of the game is also in development. That, however, is somewhere between the 10-40% done mark.
He has also said that polished console ports for the PS4, Xbox One and Switch are underway. Albeit, he does add the caveat that production on those is only at about the 20% stage.
So, what about a film? Well, despite Chris Columbus reportedly being attached, in terms of production, we might be back to square one. Scott has revealed he has scrapped a previous script (based on the original 3 games) as he feels he’s come up with a better idea. He has said: “It’s been a real challenge for everyone. Including myself. To come up with a good screenplay for this. But I’m determined to find the right story. I’m sticking to what I’ve always said, either the right movie gets made or no movie gets made.”
On the whole, he certainly sounds like a busy man. Personally, though, I can’t wait to see what he has planned.
