Fnatic Clutch 2 Gaming Mouse Review – Play Like The Pros

A Closer Look and Performance

The clutch comes hard-wired with a very nice quality 1.8-meter cable. It’s a durable and lightweight cable design, with a tangle-free coating. The USB header is a custom design too, with an off-set cable.

First impressions of the Clutch 2 are very positive, it’s a classic mouse shape, so it’s not going to feel too alien to use. The ergonomics are for right-handed use only. However, the larger size makes it suitable for pretty much any grip type. There are rubber grips down the sides, allowing you to confidently use a fingertip or claw grip with ease. Meanwhile, the arched top makes it snugly fit your hand for palm rest grips too.

The left side buttons are huge, so you’re not going to be sliding your thumb around to find them too much. They feature responsive switches with a clearly defined tactile click, each mounted independently of each other for accurate control. Of course, using the downloadable software, you can reprogram any switch on the mouse to any other button, macro or profile switch.

Dual Grips

Down the right side, another huge rubber grip. The grips are pretty hard and durable, and if you use a lift-off technique they’ll certainly help with that.

Both the left and right buttons are nice and wide, with a slightly scooped design to promote a good finger resting position. The mouse wheel is massive too, with a thick and soft rubber grip that makes it easy to control. It is clickable too, giving you another control to play around with. Furthermore, there’s a button behind it for switching DPI levels. Of course, that’s programmable too, so you can set it to profiles, macros, or whatever you like really.

Easy Glide

The underside is kept super clean and simple, with a central sensor mounted in a long black panel, with two of the largest slipmats we’ve ever seen located at the front and back. The mouse glides like it’s on ice, which is no surprise given the large slipmats and the low 97 grams weight.

The Clutch 2 looks stunning with the power off. However, once you hook up the USB cable, the built-in RGB and LEDs come to life. A lot of gaming mice put too much focus on the RGB. Of course, some people love that, so whatever floats your boat. However, this is a competitive mouse and the lighting is far more tasteful and functional, rather than distracting.

There are three almost hidden LED lights on the left side, which indicate your selected DPI profile. You can see them at a glance, but again, they’re mostly obscured so not to distract your eyesight while gaming.

RGB?

There’s full RGB lighting located in the scroll wheel as well as on the Fnatic logo on the left side. It’s a very subtle integration of the lighting, but it does give you some customisation to make it match your other hardware. What’s most important, however, is that you can set a colour per profile. For playing games with multiple mouse configurations, like Battlefield, where you’ll have ground combat and vehicles for example. You can set one to red, one to green. Overall, it just helps make things clearer at a glance, so you’re always aware of what the mouse is wanting to do.

On paper, the Clutch 2 ticks all the right boxes for an eSports friendly mouse. It has a huge DPI range, from 100 to 12000, so tracking at a super accurate crawl pace is ideal for snipers. However, crank it up, and you’ll be able to track over a 4K resolution screen on a large map, with barely a twitch of the mouse. Whatever your play styles, you’ll find them buried in that DPI range.

Ultra Fast Tracking

Since the mouse can handle 50G tracking, using low DPI, a huge mouse mat, and large fast movements is perfectly acceptable here. The sensor is absolutely fantastic too, never skipping a beat at any speed. With the Omron switches and the Pixart sensor both being well tested in the market, they’re a smart choice for any gaming mouse.

I’m no pro gamer, in fact, compared to the pros, I’m pretty crap actually. However, this is still a nice mouse to use for gaming. While I rarely go near League of Legends, the smooth tracking and good ergonomics are well suited to that type of gaming. With a less complex and more traditional mouse design, it’s perfect for FPS gaming too.

For slower paced gaming like Stardew Valley or tinkering with projects in Photoshop or Publisher, this is a very versatile mouse. I like more buttons for my work, but for the stunning sensor and comfortable ergonomics, it’s a versatile choice for work and gaming. Plus if you take it out of the office and to your next eSports event, it’ll still have your back.
