Fnatic miniStreak RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

A Closer Look

This is one of the sleekest looking mechanical keyboards I’ve ever seen. It features a very slim bezel that means it takes up as little desktop space as possible. It’s very low profile with a rather thin chassis too. Of course, being a TKL design, it has no number pad, which cuts the size down even further.

What I find the most impressive is just how strong and yet light the keyboard is. It’s just a touch over 700g, which is practically nothing for a mechanical keyboard. Quite frankly, I’m not sure how that’s possible. You would think the keyboard is flimsy and made from a little bit of plastic, but no, it’s pretty robust. Magic, that’s how they did it, you heard it here first.

The design is on point too, sure it’s compact and strong enough to throw in your backpack, but it also looks great. It’s certainly not just function over form, and the metallic blue steel look of the backplate looks superb.

Custom Caps?

The keycaps are standard Cherry MX caps, with a standard layout too. Of course, this means that using your own aftermarket custom caps isn’t going to be a problem. Although, the included ones are laser etched, and UV coated, giving them a great quality look and feel.

There is a bit of branding around the top and sides, but nothing too in your face either. Overall, the little details like the rolled edges, smooth corners, and decals really enhance the aesthetics. Of course, that’s a bit subjective, but you’ll have a hard time convincing me otherwise.

Tucked away, you’ll find a bunch of extra features. Up top, there’s a tiny Fn Lock function to keep those upper shortcuts unlocked and ready to rock. Not sure how many will need that feature, but if you plan on flicking between profiles mid-game and tinkering with more macros, it could be a very powerful tool indeed.

Also tucked away on those top keys, you’ll find some basic lighting controls, audio controls, and more.

Multimedia Controls

There are also multimedia controls on F9-F12. I love these controls, as it makes it super easy to listen to my music while I’m gaming.

Finally, you’ve got a microphone, and audio mute controls, as well as a Fnatic software trigger up top. Keep in mind, the keyboard is fully programmable too, so you can set it up however you like, ready for your next game or tournament.

USB Type-C!

On the underside, you’ll find thick rubber grips. The keyboard might be light, but it holds your desk really well with these grips. There are two huge riser feet too, as well as a secure locking USB connection. What’s interesting is that it’s a USB Type-C, the first time I’ve seen that on a peripheral.

Around the back, you’ll find a Fnatic logo with RGB backlighting. However, it can be removed…

That’s right, you can have them make up custom ones with your logo on it, how cool is that!

The keyboard comes with one of the best quality wrist rests I’ve seen in a while. It features a two-part design, with an aluminium frame, and a replaceable/removable PU leather top cover.

It locks firmly in place on the keyboard and just looks fantastic. Of course, it also promotes a more comfortable hand position. For those long gaming sessions, this will make a huge difference to your comfort.

RGB

Of course, with full RGB lighting from those gorgeous Cherry MX Silent switches, it’s quite the looker when power on too. You can customise it with various per-key effects, and that’s quite a rabbit hole to jump down. However, if you love extensive customisation, you’ll find plenty here to make gaming layouts, and much more.

The lighting is fantastic and I would remind people that you can set a single colour, or even turn it off completely if you don’t need or want it in your face like this.

Software

Tweaking macros, remapping keys, app launchers and more are just a few clicks away.

Competition mode is trigger with the Fnatic key in the top right of the keyboard. You can disable keys here, perhaps turn everything but WASD, Shift and Space off? I don’t know, but it’s what you can do to save yourself from a misclick and could be handy. 

Of course, easy access to the lighting effects too. There are multiple profiles, and it syncs online and stores to the keyboard, meaning you’ll always have your settings when you need them most.

MX = Win

While there are other switches available, the Silent are some of my favourite switches. They’re super light, super fast and just a little bit quieter than what you’re used to from a mechanical.

Cherry MX perform as reliably well in any keyboard, and the Fnatic miniStreak is a fantastic stage for them to be mounted. The key can game fast and hard without falter, and the addition of fully programmable keys through their software makes it even better.
