Football Manager 2014 Is The First FM To Hit Linux Operating Systems

The video game industry’s movement towards supporting Linux gaming continues: Sports Interactive and SEGA have revealed Football Manager 2014 has full support for Linux-based operating systems. The Football Manager series of games is probably one of the most popular sports games on the PC platform and is by far the most popular football management simulator you can get, so when it gets released on Linux it is a big deal for Linux gaming.

“Play on Linux for the first time, plus the inclusion of ‘cloud-save’ technology which means that managers can now pursue a single career from any computer, anywhere in the world. FM14 also includes integration with Steam Workshop making it easy for managers to create and share customised FM content such as photo/logo packs, new and custom competitions and tailor-made challenges using the new Challenge Editor.

New features include the improved Match Engine, tactical overhaul, more realistic transfers and contracts, more sophisticated board interaction, improved interaction with players, staff and media, news system, enhanced user interface, and Football Manager Classic has evolved.” Reads the release statement on Steam.

As of writing Football Manager 2014 and 2013 sit 8th and 9th respectively in Steam’s top 10 games for current user activity. Combining data for Football Manager 2013 and 2014 shows that is more popular on Steam than Skyrim, Counter Strike 1.6 or Civilization V.

Will you be getting Football Manager 2014 for Linux? Have you considered making the move to Linux for gaming yet?
