Former Half-Life Developer Thinks The Death Quotes In MW3 are “Exploitative and Gross”

I’ve long given up on the Call of Duty franchise so the latest release hasn’t caught as much of a whiff of attention from me, though it is very difficult to ignore the sheer amount of disappointment at the latest Modern Warfare III release. The game currently sits at mostly negative on Steam with it being labelled as a £60 DLC for Modern Warfare II and having absolutely no care put into it at all. This is all reinforced by the various rushed development and crunch time claims from developers. (Via Bloomberg). Ignoring all of that though, some completely different claims against the game have come from an ex-Half Life and Valve developer.
Modern Warfare 3, Exploitative Quotes
As shared by pcgamesn, Chet Faliszek, a former Valve writer behind the Half-Life 2 Episodes, Left 4 Dead, Portal, Portal 2 and Left for Dead 2 has claimed that the use of death quotes in Modern Warfare III is “exploitative and gross”. In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Faliszek draws attention to a Rosa Parks quote he received after dying saying that it has nothing to do with your shoot people in the face game. He clarifies that the MW3 devs are probably thinking that this is a great quote we can celebrate it and draw attention to it, but it just doesn’t belong in the game.
I don’t there is anything wrong with death quotes in the game, they were in the original Modern Warfare games as well, I do think it would be better if the quotes were more relevant to war rather than Rosa Parks though. Either way, I don’t see it as too big of a deal.
