Former Intel CEO Andy Grove Has Passed Away

I’m sure that many of you have already heard about Andy Grove, as he was the one who actually put Intel on the path to greatness. You see, during its early years, Intel used to invest heavily in memory chip manufacturing, but as Japanese imports made these chips available at lower costs for consumers, the company had to rethink its entire strategy. Andy Grove was a company executive at the time, and he actually steered Intel towards the microprocessor market and even struck a deal with IBM in order to make sure that they would use Intel’s products exclusively. The famous Intel 386 and Pentium processors soon followed, and the company’s yearly revenues went up from $1.9 billion to no less than $26 billion.

Clearly, Andy Grove knew what he was doing, but in the following years, Intel had its ups and downs. As a person and as a leader, he was described as intense and demanding, but I guess the head of such an important company needed to be this way in order to make sure that things would run as smoothly as possible. Furthermore, I can only imagine how much pressure he had to endure throughout the years, especially given the tough decisions that he had to make. Sadly, Andy Grove has recently passed away at the age of 79, but he will always be remembered for his unique vision and undeniable leadership skills. Hopefully, future generations will look at his accomplishments and be inspired, so that we may see similar individuals arise.
