Fortnite Not Getting New Maps or Vehicles Anytime Soon

With over 40 million users, Fortnite is now one of the most popular games on the planet. Its free Battle Royale mode offers a fun, more optimized alternative to PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds. Plus, it is available on the PC, Xbox and even PlayStation 4. However, developer Epic is not stressing about where to take their game next. In fact, they are confident enough to announce that they have no plans to introduce vehicles or new maps like PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds.
However, that does not mean that developer Epic Games is resting on their laurels. In fact, they are introducing a massive new update this week. Instead of adding cosmetic changes, the devs are calling this “a quality of life” update. They may not be easily noticeable to casual onlookers, but longtime fans will appreciate these subtle but impactful changes.
System Performance Improvements
One of the most notable changes will be how the game streams visuals into the world. This ensures a more streamlined and better performing game on the majority of systems. While it does not impact what it appears normally with the same draw distance settings, underneath the memory and CPU performance hit is much less. This applies not just for those on lower end PCs but consoles as well. According to Epic games, this then allows them to use that processing power for improving other aspects of the game.
Map Update
Epic Games is also not interested in adding vehicles since they have designed the maps to be accessible by foot. The only vehicle necessary is the flying bus. Although the latest update will be introducing two new ‘cities’ according to Sidney Rauchberger, lead level designer for the game. It is still the same map, just with added and streamlined features. Specifically, they are increasing the density of the points of interest on the western points of the map.
