Just before Christmas, the developers of Fortnite decided to give the players of the free version a little present. They introduced a new game mode for the battle royale mode which essentially made the game 50 vs 50.
With the popularity of this, the developers extended this for an additional week over the holidays and are now, in a report via Polygon, considering looking into this further.
In a report via Polygon, the developers of Fortnite, based on the success of the prior 50 vs 50 mode are considering rolling out various different game modes. These will be specifically created for the free users of the game, but are expected to form a possible permanent part of the purchased copies.
The studio refers to these potential new games modes as Limited Time Modes (LTM’s). They will be released on a ‘seasonal’ style basis on rotation to give free gamers new ways to play.
I see no reason why not. Fortnite has been somewhat of a phenomenon since it’s release. Certainly it’s free-to-play structure makes it a winner, but in addition, the fun and colourful game style also make it appealing. It’s no surprise that this has somewhat eclipsed its far more serious (and long-winded) rival PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
Epic games have said: “We’ve been using multiple data points (including your feedback) to iterate our existing LTM’s and to build brand new LTM’s. We are planning to quickly spin up a dozen or so LTMs, some of [which] may be more straightforward (e.g. along the lines of Sniper Shootout, Sneaky Silencer etc.).”
I must admit, having resisted Fortnite for quite some time, I did play it for the first time last week and I must say, I can see the appeal. It’s fun, accessible and more importantly free. Presuming that further game modes come then the future for this game is looking bright.
