Just in case you hadn’t noticed, Fortnite is a very popular game. In other news the grass is green and the sky is blue. Yes, I admit. They are three facts that I (hopefully) didn’t have to tell you. Getting back to the game though, while it is exceptionally popular, what might surprise you is just how many people are actually playing it.
Well, in a report via TheStar, Epic Games has reported that player figures for the popular Battle Royale game have now topped over 200 million accounts.
Now, we should be clear that 200 million players is clearly a huge number. It is around the same population of France, Britain and Germany combined. It is, additionally, impressive that Epic Games has revealed that this amount has increased by about 60% just since last June. There is, however, a pinch of salt that has to be taken here.
200 million players does not necessarily mean that there are 200 million people playing the game!
Ok, so this figure appears to be based on the accounts rather than players. I, for example, have a Fortnite account, yet I’ve only played the game once or twice. As such, while the game is popular, I honestly doubt it has 200 million active players. As such, you have to take these figures with something of a sceptical view, but regardless, we can all agree that it is, if nothing else, an exceptionally popular game.
