This Autumn is set to showcase two of the biggest names in racing simulation. Forza Motorsport 7 and Project Cars 2 are going to release less than 2 weeks apart. Unusual to see such similar games going into direct competition. Even so, people can’t wait. If you are planning to get Forza Motorsport 7 though, you might want to check your ISP and kiss goodbye to your fair usage, as the download is expected to be just a tiny bit under 100gb.
A crazy figure, but then that is the price for all of those pretty 4k texture packs. If people demand the high quality it does come with a price. Gears of War 4 recently tipped the scales at over 120gb installed. Fortunately a patch compressed that down to about 100gb, but still, these are crazy file sizes. The download size, as reported by PCGamer, is set to have most SSD’s cowering in terror.
It gets worse. Although not confirmed, it’s confirmed that while the download is just under 100gb, the install size is definitely going to be over it!
Now as I just touched on, not a problem for your standard hard drives these days. Most standard mechanical drives now are at least 500gb to a terabyte in size. As such although this game will gobble up a good lump, you’ve still got plenty of room left to play with. However, with the emergence of SSD gaming and the push for the best looking performance and graphics, this is going to represent a significant lump, particularly since SSD drive prices are not really coming down much.
So before you download this game, you might need to do a little pruning on your hard drive. Maybe shuffle some things off your SSD onto your regular drives because if you’re not careful, this fatty could swallow the whole thing up!
I sincerely hope you are not one of those unfortunates who are on limited/fair usage internet packages. Some parents are going to get some additional usage charges around September/October I think.
