Foxconn H67A-S Motherboard Review

A Closer LookThe H67A-S uses the ATX form factor and has a styling black colour scheme with bright yellow accents showing off the main components on the board including memory and expansion slots. This definitely makes the board stand out and looks very up-to-date and current.
The CPU socket is very sparse looking and we don’t say that as a bad thing. As this board is based upon the H67 chipset, you’ll find no overclocking functions and therefore no need for mass amounts of cooling around the socket. This allows for easy installation for some of the biggest coolers on the market.
The only part of the board that has any type of cooling is where the Intel H67 chip sits under. The passive design features a black and red colour scheme with the Foxconn logo on top, though we’re not quite sure why it’s red when the rest of the board features yellow.
In typical fashion for 1155 based motherboards, we find four dual channel DDR3 memory slots which allow up to 32GB of DDR3 1066 or 1333MHz memory. Faster modules can be used but will force them to be downclocked to the lower speeds that the board caters for.
This board isn’t aimed at users wanting to have the most extreme set-up in mind and therefore caters more for the user wanting a mainstream system with functionality in mind. Due to this we see a whole host of different connections including a single PCI-Express x16 slot, two PCI-Express x1 slots and an amazing three legacy PCI slots. Personally a second PCI-Express x16 would have been preferred over two of the PCI slots.
The storage options on this board include six SATA ports of which the two yellow ports support SATA III (6g) standards and the remaining three black ports support SATA II. RAID options include 0, 1, 5 and 10 as expected on a board of this nature.
The front panel connectors are situated in their normal location at the bottom of the board which includes four USB 2.0 headers supported an additional 8 USB ports on your case or expansion panel/bracket. There is also a COM port and the usual audio headers too.
To match the colour scheme we find the ATX 24-pin connector in it’s usual place in black.
Also matching the colour scheme is a black 8-pin power connector towards the rear I/O panel in the top right of the board.
As per usual the CPU fan header is located at the top of the board by the CPU socket.
There is another fan header located next to the SATA ports.
Finally is another fan header situated right next to the top PCI-Express expansion slot.
This board is based on the H67 platform and therefore has the connectivity options to suit in terms of display. We find (from left to right) a PS2 keyboard port, two USB 2.0 ports, VGA and DVI, optical SPDIF, a further two USB 2.0 ports, eSATA, another two USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit LAN, two USB 3.0 ports (blue) and 7.1 channel audio.
