Fractal Ion+2 Platinum 660W Power Supply Review

Efficiency
The Fractal Ion+2 is an 80 Plus Platinum rated power supply and, as such, in terms of efficiency, has one of the highest ratings currently available. With this in mind, it was clearly a matter of significant interest to us to see how this managed to perform and, more notable, whether it could actually achieve those results in our testing.
So, could it? Well, the short answer is yes. – Throughout our range of testing, the Fractal Ion+2 easily managed to achieve its Platinum rating and, might we add, by a notably comfortable (if not huge) margin. Considering that the efficiency rating requirements require an efficiency score of 90% at 20% and 100% load, as you can see in the results below, it managed to exceed them by a pretty substantial margin.
PFC (Power Factor Correction)
Although starting off quite low, which is entirely expected with practically any power supply, the moment you start asking the Fractal Ion+2 to start working harder, the PFC quickly ramps up to some very impressive levels. Although not the highest we have ever encountered, they are still more than a little impressive hitting just over 0.98 at 100% load. A factor which, again, highlights just how efficiently that all-important power is being delivered.
Voltage Regulation
I think it’s safe to say that consistency is always king when it comes to voltage regulation. While the Fractal Ion+2 did provide a little deviancy based on the overall load tests, as you can see in the results below, this all averaged out to an exceptionally low figure. Although this is entirely what we expect to see from the vast majority of our voltage regulation testing, even we’ll admit that the average deviancy provided here is a lot tighter than we usually get and, as such, it again highlights that the Fractal Ion+2 is definitely a quality designed product with excellent components.
