Framework 13 With Ryzen 7040 CPU
Framework, which offers fully repairable and upgradable laptops, has announced that its Ryzen 7040 series-based laptops are now available for pre-order to be shipped as early as Q3 2023 with incredible CPU and iGPU performance. The company is offering two options in the form of the Ryzen 5 7640U and the Ryzen 7 7840U both featuring AMD’s fastest processor technology yet. The Ryzen 5 7640U features 6 cores and 12 threads with a base clock of 3.5GHz and a boost of 4.9GHz whilst the Ryzen 7 7840U features 8 cores and 16 threads with a base clock of 3.3GHz and a boost of 5.1GHz. Both of these CPUs are paired up with Radeon 760M and 780M graphics with 8 and 12 compute cores respectively. The cooling system within these laptops has been designed to be able to handle to 28W continuous load of these CPUs.
Expansion and Flexibility
Framework prides itself on the repairability and flexibility of its laptops which allow the user to choose their expansion ports with expansion cards that offer USB, HDMI and DisplayPort. Furthermore, users can upgrade their existing Framework laptop by simply replacing the mainboard with a new Ryzen-based mainboard which would also require DDR5-5600 So-DIMMs as well as a Ryzen Compatible WiFi card which are all available in the Framework Marketplace. If you do go the upgrade route you can take your old mainboard and place it within one of the mainboard cases the company provides to create a standalone small form factor computer.
