So there we have it, some of my top choices of the current free-to-play games and a glimpse of what is to come in the future, with so many free to play games out there at the moment it’s hard to pick and choose which ones to try first, but at least if you do take the leap of downloading them all, which is something I seem to be trying to do over the last few months, at least you can do so in the knowledge that it hasn’t cost you a penny.
It’s great to see so many smaller developers having success with this business model, let alone the power F2P has to revive a once failing game from the grave, but games developers are realising they can make more money by giving it away for free and then letting you decide if it’s worth paying a little extra further down the road, a fact that has clearly got the attention of some of the biggest games developers and publishers over the last couple of years, with the people at Crytek, Ubisoft, EA and many more getting involved in the idea, meaning that 2012 is shaping up to be the ultimate year of free-to-play gaming.
