Free Wifi coming to the London Overground

London Overground stations will offer commuters web access free of charge.

This time last year, Transport for London announced that there would be WiFi access in 120 tube stations in time for the London 2012 games. Today, The Cloud has announced a deal with London Overground that will see travellers soon be able to avail of 60 minutes of free WiFi at London Overground stations.

“London Overground is one of the best performing railways in the UK. We have modernised every area of the service including the train fleet, the stations and signalling,” Howard Smith, Chief Rail Operating Officer for Transport for London (TfL), is quoted as saying in the announcement.

“By providing this new service our passengers will be able to access our latest travel information free of charge and it will enhance our reputation as providing a truly modern railway fit for the 21st century.”

Intended for those that spend their time glued to their phone, tablet, ereader, or laptop, the WiFi rollout will begin this summer and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The Cloud, which is powered by BSkyB, says it will cover all 56 stations on the network and access will also be available in the immediate vicinity of stations.
