Of all the Nvidia 30XX series of graphics cards, the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti was the one that probably interested me the most. – Putting all the issues of stock and actual retail prices to one side, it came with some impressive specifications and at an official cost that was (in theory) affordable without completely draining my PC hardware budget. Not to mention the fact that it clearly represented a solid upgrade on my 1080 Ti.
Yes, admittedly, what actually happened in the GPU market played a major role in why I never actually ended up getting one. Expanding on that a little further, however, there was another factor that ultimately led me to not pursue pulling the trigger any further than mere wishful thinking. – Put simply, I was a little disappointed at it only coming with 8GB of VRAM.
Now, whether you agree with that or not, when information appeared earlier this year suggesting that Nvidia was planning a newly revised model taking the 3070 Ti up to 16GB of VRAM, this fully had my attention. – To date, however, and particularly over the last few months, it ultimately seemed that Nvidia wasn’t going to go ahead with this preferring, instead, to make a more affordable 3060 (downgraded to 8GB of VRAM) and more potent 3060 Ti (upgraded to GDDR6X).
Following a Twitter post by reliable leak source ‘@harukaze5719‘, however, it seems that Nvidia might be set to make another u-turn with the 3070 Ti 16GB once again being cited!
With a number of new Gigabyte EEC registrations having been spotted, most of them seem to revolve around the upcoming 3060 and 3060 Ti revisions. With one specific mention of a ‘GV-N307T GAMING OC ST-16GD’, however, this clearly points towards the long-rumoured 16GB revision to the 3070 Ti.
And let me put this bluntly, if this is happening, while I will still likely at this point wait for the 40XX series to drop and evaluate my decision from there if they prove to ultimately be too expensive for my blood, then this revised 3070 Ti GPU will be getting my money. There is no ‘if’ about this! – I don’t care if this will technically be ‘last-gen’ at that point, it ticks all the boxes I need!
Given how this rumour has swung back and forth over the last 6-8 months, we would advise that you should take this with a grain of salt. Put simply, it seems that even Nvidia doesn’t know for sure whether they will eventually release this revised 3070 Ti with seemingly constantly flip-flopping one way and the other. – I daresay though that if they do, many people (like myself) will be eying this up with more than a little curiosity. Particularly if Nvidia also decides to drop its MSRP from £549.99 to £499.99.
I mean, it’s no secret that they need to shift a lot of existing-gen stock, and a move this like would undoubtedly help that happen!
What do you think though? Could a 16GB 3070 Ti tempt you into a late-in-day 30XX purchase? – Let us know in the comments!
