Power Supply manufacturer FSP has teamed up with Bitspower to create a liquid cooled PSU, proclaimed to be the first of its kind in the world. The Hydro PTM+ is an 80 Plus Platinum-certified, 1200W ATX PSU which can be pushed to 1400W when liquid cooling is enabled. Oh, and it’s got RGB LEDs, because it’s a piece of PC hardware in 2017.
FSP says:
“This revolutionary new liquid cooled PSU is the first in the industry. It has been demanded by many PC building enthusiasts who have long been wanting an innovative solution to cool off their PSU both effectively and aesthetically pleasing. There were many safety concerns of running water in electrical equipment in the past but we made it possible today through our continuous research, development and partnered with Bitspower’s advanced technology.”
Nope! FSP must be unaware that Koolance already beat them to that feat at least ten years ago. Check Jon Gerow’s review of the Koolance PSU-1200ATX-12S Liquid Cooled 1200W from 2007.
Go back even further, to 2000, and Koolance also offered a water cooled 230W ATX PSU. Though, to give the FSP the benefit of the doubt, the two Koolance PSUs only had limited manufacturing runs. Maybe FSP plans to be the Hydro PTM+ to be first mass-manufactured liquid cooled PSU? Maybe?
FSP has not announced a price or release date for the Hydro PTM+, though more information is expected at Computex.
