Func HS-260 Stereo Gaming Headset Review

Performance

Since the HS-260 is a gaming headset it seems silly to being my tests with anything else than games so I fired up Battlefield 4, League of Legends and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag for a few games (not all at the same time of course). After a few hours usage it was clear that Func have fitted the HS-260 with absolutely gorgeous drivers, they sound absolutely stunning. Bass has a nice depth to it that’s enough to give big explosions a good thump, but not so much that it distorts or interferes with the rest of the range. Many gaming headsets are way too heavy in terms of bass, often to give them a wow factor that I often find leaves your ears feeling worn out after a long gaming session, but Func have found a sweet spot that gives a deep low end rather than just pushing the low end of the EQ louder. Mid range frequencies has a nice warmth to them that really brings out the finer details in the sound-scape, stray bullets, gusts of wind, debris rolling on the floor sound so good that the sound has an almost tangible texture. High end is crystal clear, dialogue shines through beautifully no matter how frantic the lower end gets.

Gaming really is great though the HS-260, and the headset goes a long way to bringing out many of the audio details around you that you don’t normally pick up through speakers. They’re very comfortable on the ears, although the headband padding does take a little while to mould in to your head shape. Chat performance was great and while the microphone is nothing remarkable it is as good as anything else in the sub £100 headset price range.

Music performance is more important to me than gaming, not a day goes by where I don’t spend hours with my favourite albums blasting out and having great audio reproduction is an absolute must. As I said before, many gaming headsets ramp up the bass, cut the mid tones out and crank up the high end, which is something that can really ruin the music listening experience. The HS-260 don’t suffer from this problem at all and quite frankly I’m thinking about swapping out my Cyborg headset which costs nearly three times more than the HS-260 and keeping these for my personal music listening! No matter what I threw at the HS-260 the sound was stunning, from the furiousness of Cannibal Corpse to the warm tones of a few early Genesis albums sounded superb. The drivers handle EQ rather well too and a little push on the mid ranges helped bring out even more detail in the sound that gave a lot of definition to guitar tones.

Movie performance was also superb, the quality of the sound has already been proven, but the long term comfort of the headset is a real win when kicking back to enjoy a movie and I must admit that the velour ear covers are wonderfully snug over your ears, while still offering just a little airflow to stop your ears getting too warm.
