Typically mouse pads are not really thought of as an important product, with many gamers just using their desk surface, so packaging does not tend to get noticed. We’ve seen mouse pads rolled up (soft variety) and others in plain boxes, Func however, have gone all out to produce a premium looking display box that has a very simplistic and clean design, something both myself and my colleagues like the look of.
When the box is opened you are presented with the mouse pad, which is inset into a foam cut out. There is a small orange ribbon to aid removing the pad from the foam – a nice touch I think.
The mouse pad itself comes in two parts, the base and the pad. This is because the pad can be turned over if you fancy a change in surface type, just prefer rough to smooth or vice versa. The design is very simple, with just the Func logo in white in the lower right corner of a plain black pad. The shape is rectangular in nature, but with a slight taper to one edge, with curved sides. Build quality wise, the pad does have some sharp edges, no doubt the result of the manufacturing process.
The base has nine rubber feet that give the Func mouse pad a solid grip on the desk. There are two small holes in opposite corners that make it easier to remove the pad from the base to swap it over.
So that pretty much concludes our closer look at the Func Surface 1030 XL Pad, now lets see how it performs.
