G.Skill Achieve First CMTL-Approval For DDR4-3200MHz SO-DIMMs

G.Skill has been pushing SO-DIMM memory modules to the max and continue to do so, and now they have become the first manufacturer to achieve CMTL Approval for 3200 MHz DDR4 SO-DIMM modules by passing the demanding Intel Approved Testing Process.

SO-DIMMs with 3200 MHz is an intense speed and G.Skill’s Ripjaws is the fastest DDR4 SO-DIMM memory kit to be ever validated on an Intel platform. The testing and validation was performed by Computer Memory Test Labs (CMTL) on the Intel NUC Skull Canyon NUC6i7KYK platform. The speed is even more impressive when we consider that these modules are designed for SFF systems and notebooks. My desktop and gaming system still runs with 2400 MHz modules.

Intel has been pushing compact computing for a while with both their Stick and NUC series, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that they’ve worked closely with G.Skill in the manufacturing process in order to make these memory modules as good and as compatible as possible.

The new G.Skill modules aren’t listed on the official product pages yet, so we have to guess a bit when it comes to the rest of the specifications. Looking at the existing modules in the series, they’ll likely come with CL16-18-18-43 timings and run at the given 1.2V that DDR4 modules require. Module sizes should be 8GB and 16GB for 16GB and 32GB dual-channel kits.

Bonus information for those who shouldn’t know it, CMTL is a third party test lab established in 1996 in cooperation with Intel to ensure memory module compatibility and functionality on Intel platforms. Memory that successfully passes the Intel Approved testing process by CMTL is added to each Intel motherboard approved memory list. “Modules not approved by Intel are not supported and may have a higher risk of experiencing sporadic errors, unstable functionality and performance issues.”
