AMD’s new AM4 platform is fresh off the block and this also marks the first time they have DDR4 support on their high-end desktop platform. To make finding compatible overclocking memory easy on the AM4, G.SKILL has released their FlareX and FORTIS series specifically tuned for use with dual-channel Ryzen motherboards. While setting the rated overclocked memory on Intel is quite easy with their proprietary XMP, AMD systems are a different story. Also since it is new, not many high MHz memory kits are listed yet on each motherboard manufacturer’s QVL list.
AMD officially supports two-DIMM DDR4 up to 2667MHz if it is a single rank kit. If you are looking to run anything higher,t he Flare X DDR4 is a good option since it comes pre-binned and tested on the AM4 with options for up to 3466MHz kits. The FORTIS series on the other hand is more of a mainstream gaming solution with kits offered from 2133 through 2400MHz and designed as a cost-effective solution.
The Flare X series is available from 2133MHz CL15 through 3200MHz CL14 and 3466MHz CL16 frequencies/timings. The FORTIS series are 1.2V kits available for those who prefer larger capacities over speed, offering it up to 16GBx4 sizes. Both kits will be available in retailers worldwide within March 2017 and will come with a lifetime warranty.
