With the GTX 1080 launch almost upon us, AIB partners are getting more liberal about teasing their custom cards. Not one to be left out, we’re not getting a teaser image of what appears to be GAINWARD’s GTX 1080. From the looks of it, it appears to be the Phoenix variant of the card.
Compared to past Phoenix cards, the GXT 1080 variant is a bit of an anomaly, sporting only 2 fans instead of the usual 3. The design sports more resemblance to the GTX 970 Phoenix than the GTX 980Ti Phoenix. What’s more, the fans appear to be extra large 100mm ones, allowing for slower operation and less noise. Given that the GTX 1080 isn’t particularly hot, I suspect the cooler will be more than capable. The design also appears to be quite compact and should fit into 2 slots, unlike some dual slot designs that are really 2.5 slots thick.
The big question is the power configuration. As we found out from the stock GTX 1080, the card needs more than a single 8pin PCIe power connector to fully unleash its power. Hopefully, GAINWARD will have provided for an additional connector to fully unlock the performance of the chip. What do you think about the GTX 1080 Phoenix?
