Shortly after Nvidia launched their GTX 1080 Founders Edition card, their AiB partners have slowly started revealing their various products. So far, Inno3D and Zotac have come out with their respective GTX 1080 reference models. Now, GALAX, previously known as GALAXY, has teased their own GTX 1080 Founders Edition graphics card. There is no word yet on custom or HOF variants.
As we know, the Founders Edition models are basically Nvidia’s reference model with an extra $100 bump over the custom models. As such, you’re pretty much paying for the early access to the card instead of waiting for custom models to drop. The Founders Edition GTX 1080 will be available May 27th, with stock 1607/1733 MHz clocks, 8GB GDDR5X memory and 2560 CUDA cores. They also have the DVI-D, DP1.3, and HDMI 2.0b display connectors.
As reference models, the biggest difference between them all is the bundled accessories, warranty term, support network and customer service. Of course, you also get different box artwork and different case stickers if they are provided. Hopefully, the new Nvidia reference cooler won’t disappoint and will offer more than a simple aesthetic upgrade. Given the significantly lowered TDP, I expect these cards will be much cooler and quieter than the GTX 980Ti and Titan X.
