Galaxy 4GB GTX 680 revealed

It was only a matter of time before someone equipped the GTX 680 with 4GB of RAM. It is a card that supports 3+1 screens and yet by reference design only has 2GB of video memory which is roughly about enough for two 1080p or higher monitors. To run three-way Nvidia surround the 4GB of RAM will be especially useful for texture intensive games like Metro 2033 or Battlefield 3.
Galaxy (KFA2 is the European branch) have the first GTX 680 design we’ve actually seen and so far things are looking pretty good. To equip the GTX 680 with sixteen 2Gb chips of video memory instead of eight, Galaxy had to redesign the entire PCB. The new PCB features an 5+2 Phase VRM design which should allow for some impressive overclocking. That said the card comes with a slightly overclocked base clock of 1.1GHz core.
The used cooler for the graphics card is custom designed by Galaxy and has the usual features of a solid VGA cooler: dual fans, a dense aluminium heat sink array and what appears to be 4 heat pipes. Although, the blue PCB that the card comes with may not be to everyone’s taste and we think that Galaxy should also be offering a backplate accessory especially since the back features 8 memory chips.
